This week, we will move into the second half of Module 1- Properties of Multiplication and Division and Solving Problems with Unites of 2-5 and 10. We will be completing lessons 11-16 (skipping lessons 12 and 15). Our lessons this week focus on modeling division as the unknown, interpreting the unknown as units of 3 or 4, and using the distributive property. Students will take a formative on Friday.
Need help with homework? Search "Eureka Math, third grade, module 1 lesson ___" on YouTube :) Each day in class, we will be completing a portion (or all) of the problem set. Students are responsible for completing the corresponding homework pages for our daily lesson on Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your child is putting their workbook right back in their backpack after completing their homework. You will find all homework assignments written in their planner and on our class webpage.

Our focus skills this quarter are:
RL 3.1- I can ask and answer questions about a story.
RL 3.3- I can describe character traits in a story.
RL 3.3- I can explain how character traits affect the order of events.
RL 3.6- I can explain my point of view.
RL 3.6- I can describe how my point of view might be different from the character's point of view.
L 3.2 I can demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
This week, we will be a poem called "Amazing Face", a picture book called "Voices in the Park", and a short story called "Car Ride with Dad". Our new skill this week focuses on point of view and comparing our point of view to a character in a story. By the end of the week, we will be starting our first NOVEL of the year- Cheese :)
We will continue to practice identifying character traits with supporting evidence. Supporting evidence can be tricky, as it MUST be something the character they are describing said or did (actions or words).
This week, we will work to describe the types of community (rural, urban, suburban). Your child will also have a special assignment going home on Monday, "Community Brochure Research" which will be due on Friday (9/19).

We will continue our narrative writing unit this week, where we will work on extending the stories "The Name Jar" and "The Invisible Boy". Students will work on strengthening their writing by adding dialogue, using temporal words, and providing closure.

Our base of the week is bag which means "to put in" or "small sack".

*Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Our lessons 3rd grade students will begin the week of February 1st. The Chelsea Intermediate School Social Workers will be teaching each lesson in the child’s classroom. The "Think First and Stay Safe" program will be the curriculum utilized for these lessons with a focus on Child Lures.
