Math

This week, we will begin our last module of third grade- Module 7! We will focus this week on solving word problems, comparing and classifying quadrilaterals and other polygons, and drawing polygons with specific attritbutes.

Zearn: Students will always be one lesson ahead on Zearn. This means that on Friday, students already completed module 1 lesson 1. This is in an effort to frontload information and increase student confidence in math. Students will be provided with time to complete Zearn in the classroom each day, however if they do not finish the assigned lesson they will need to finish at home.

Need help with homework? Search "Eureka Math, third grade, module 1 lesson ___" on YouTube :) Each day in class, we will be completing a portion (or all) of the problem set. Students are responsible for completing the corresponding homework pages for our daily lesson on Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your child is putting their workbook right back in their backpack after completing their homework. You will find all homework assignments written in their planner and on our class webpage.

Reading

We will be continuing through our literature unit for quarter 4, which features our author study on Patricia Polacco. This is always a third-grade favorite :)

We will be utilizing several texts this week to discuss comparing and contrasting story elements including My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother, Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare, and Chicken Sunday.

Our focus skills this quarter are:

RL 3.1 I can ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text.

RL3.3 I can describe characters in a story and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

RL 3.5 I can refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, using terms such as chapter, scene, and stanza; describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections.

RL3.7 I can explain how specific aspects of a text’s illustrations contribute to what is conveyed by the words in a story.

RL3.9 I can compare and contrast the themes, plot, and settings of two stories with similar characters.

L 3.2 I can demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

This week's mystery is "Why are there so many different kinds of flowers?"
