Math

This week, we will begin Module 2- place value and problem solving with units of measure. We will be completing lessons 2-7 (skipping 4). Our lessons this week focus on relating skip counting on a clock to a number line, solving word problems within the hour using adding and subtracting, building and decomposing a kilogram, and estimating using benchmarks of 1 kg, 100g, 10g, and 1g.

Need help with homework? Search "Eureka Math, third grade, module 1 lesson ___" on YouTube :) Each day in class, we will be completing a portion (or all) of the problem set. Students are responsible for completing the corresponding homework pages for our daily lesson on Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your child is putting their workbook right back in their backpack after completing their homework. You will find all homework assignments written in their planner and on our class webpage.

Reading

Our focus skills this quarter are:

RL 3.1- I can ask and answer questions about a story.

RL 3.3- I can describe character traits in a story.

RL 3.3- I can explain how character traits affect the order of events.

RL 3.6- I can explain my point of view.

RL 3.6- I can describe how my point of view might be different from the character's point of view.

L 3.2 I can demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

This week, we will be working with the above standards as we read our novel, Cheese :)

We will continue to practice identifying character traits with supporting evidence. Supporting evidence can be tricky, as it MUST be something the character they are describing said or did (actions or words). We are also continuing our point of view responses.

-  ______'s POV is ___________. I know because in the text it says____________.

-My POV is the same as/different than ______________. In the text it says ______________. I think/I feel _________________.

SS

This week, we will wrap up our unit on communities! We will be learning about goods and services and design brochures for our own communities.

Writing

We will continue writing narratives by retelling from a different character's point of view. We will unpack prompts, determine what needs to stay the same and what can change, and write a few retells! We will also revise and edit our writing.
