Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for students in grades Pre-K through 12.
Our lessons for 5th grade students will begin the week of January 18th, 4th grade students will begin the week of January 25th, and 3rd grade students will begin the week of February 1st. The Chelsea Intermediate School Social Workers will be teaching each lesson in the child’s classroom. The "Think First and Stay Safe" program will be the curriculum utilized for these lessons with a focus on Child Lures.
Math
We are moving on to the 2nd half of module 5 in fractions. Our skills will include plotting fractions on a number line, comparing fractons with a area model, number line and by finding a common denominator. Our most recent skills include adding fractions that have different denominators. The students need to find a common deniminatore before adding. Please keep up with your Zearn. Students should be close to lesson 30. We will be on lesson 32 on Friday March. 5th.
We are still not 100% in Reflex math. This helps so much with this unit
Please continue to work on ZEARN and catch up to lesson 31

ELA
In ELA we finishing up the infomational skills with more practice We will review inferring, main idea / details and summarizing of passages. We will contiue with Bud Not Buddy. Our focused skills include characters and traits, settings, and also summarizing a passage.
In writing we are focusing on reading two passages then answering a prompt while using evidence from both passages. Focus is on organization, stating passages and purpose while giving support for your answer.
The students have been doing excellent in all subject areas. The main focus is slowing down on work and working carefully without talking.
Below is a link for parents for the Math Curriculum. Mrs. Averbeck has designed a padlet or a "One Stop Shop" for all out math needs. She will guide you through what is included like manipulatives, videos and all practice and homework pages.
