Welcome to 8B SS!

If you made it here, you are probably curious about me and our social studies class. My name is Michelle Sommer.  'Sommer' is pronounced like the season and there is no S at the end of my name. I have been teaching for 27 years at the middle school level in both social studies and English.  I have been at HCMS since the new building opened and previous to that I taught at Wilbur Wright Middle School in Munster, IN, for 10 years.  I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Education from Purdue University. 

 

I have lived in the southwest suburbs of Chicago all my life and have just moved south down Harlem Avenue through my years alive.  I am a resident of Frankfort and have two kitties and a great husband that is my high school sweetheart.  He owns a family company in Orland Park. We love to cycle together, boat, and travel to Colorado.  

 

Our class will focus on American history from the 1800s to present.  I'm not so much into dates but understanding overall concepts and patterns in history.  Hopefully our class will help you understand more about America today through our studies.
