Mr. Van's Fourth Grade News.

Camp Half Blood Information
Dear 4th grade families,
As some families may have heard, 4th grade hosts an end of year celebration that is connected to our novel The Lightning Thief. Our goal is to bring this classic story to life for our students. During the last days of school, Chelsea hosts our very own version of "Camp Half Blood". In our novel, the main character, Percy, spends some time at a special summer camp where he learns to build his skills and abilities. We hope our Chelsea camp days will inspire creativity, teambuilding, and comradery among our students. Each classroom in fourth grade will become a "cabin" from the camp with a mascot and color.
During our camp days, 4th grade students will participate in crafts, games, and challenges connected to the novel. Since these activities are for all fourth-grade students, we are asking for help to sponsor some of the items needed for the activities and some extra fun stuff to really transform our learning spaces for the kids.

Classroom Focus
Arrival and Dismissal
We continue to work on classroom routines when entering the classroom in the morning and packing up for dismissal. Step by step directions on what to do are always on the front PowerPoint. It should be followed very easily.
Dismissal can be a bit crazy but the reminders are again on the board. The students can look at the checklist of what to unpack or pack up and what to have out for class.
Homework / Assignment Notebook
We need to focus on bringing these items home and then returning them each day. Too many kids are forgetting multiple time a week. I will be keeping track of missing homework to hopefully help us improve.
Talking
Too much random talking during lessons and work time continue to happen. We have many great examples of hardworking students but we need more students to help us out.
Students will get a check by their name when they talk or make a poor choice. Three checks in a day will result in a REFLECTION. Hopefully we will see improvement.
