2025 - 2026 School Year
I hope everyone is enjoying the last couple weeks of their Summer break with family and friends and getting plenty of time for rest and relaxation. August is here and before we know it, school will be back in full swing. I am looking forward to meeting all my new students and beginning another wonderful year in 5th grade. I will be your child's ELA teacher (reading, writing, word study) and they will have a second teacher (Mrs. Page) for math/ science/ social studies.
During 1st quarter, my homeroom students will be participating in art class.

Quarter 1 Overview
Essential Question: What does it mean to adapt?

Novel: Ungifted by Gordon Korman
- Narrative writing - Students will working on continuing a story as well as writing from a different character or narrator's point of view
- L 5.2 – I can demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
Reading Literature Standards:
- RL 5.1 I can quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
- RL 5.2 - I can determine the theme of a text; summarize a text.
- RL 5.4 - I can use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words.
- RL 5.6 - I can describe how a narrator's or speaker's point of view influences how events are described.
- RI 5.1 I can quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
- RI 5.2 - I can determine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details.
- RI 5.3 I can explain the relationship between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts, using support from the texts.
- RI 5.4 I can determine the meaning of words or phrases in a text using context clues.

Scholastic Book Club Orders
Our class code is QCDZK. I place orders from Scholastic at the end of each month. E-Learning Plan
In the event of the need to call an e-learning day, we will be utilizing the schedule attached below. E-learning days will only be called if we have fair warning of severe inclement weather and have time to send students home with all their materials and devices.
