Welcome-Announcements-Curriculum

Welcome to 4th Grade!  Below are Announcements and an Overview of the Curriculum of Quarter 1

For those parents that want to sign up for "Remind" (a group text alert from me) for the 2025-2026 school year please follow these instructions.  But please read the section just below titled "Departmentalizing" to understand that I will have two classes this year...a morning/AM homeroom class and then a different class coming to me in the afternoon/PM.  Please sign up for the correct one.

If you are in my MORNING/AM HOMEROOM CLASS please text to the following number: 81010 the following message: @22bah48

If you are in my AFTERNOON/PM CLASS please text to the following number: 81010 the following message:  @cb9g9g

Each different class (my homeroom class and my afternoon class) will have a different texting group through Remind.

I recommend all parents sign up for this as I'll be sending out time sensitive or important texts that you must know immediately rather through an email.  I don't text the parents about academics, assignments or upcoming assessments.  All academic info is on this webpage under the "Week At A Glance" section or down below on this page.  I text about 1/2 days/Early Dismissals, School Spirit Days, Hot Lunches, Holiday Info, Due Dates for Various Items, FastBridge/IAR Dates and other general school/classroom information.  Again, all academic information will be on my webpage.

My phone DOES NOT ALWAYS alert me when you respond to me through the Remind App.  Therefore; I may not respond right away to a question or text because I did not see it yet.  I do check the Remind App here and there throughout the week but not regularly.  The best way to get a hold of me is email as I check that constantly...even over the weekends, nights and holidays.

DEPARTMENTALIZING/CONTENT SPECIALIST

For a third year now... 4th Grade will be departmentalizing our subjects as 5th Grade has for years.  Students will not be in one classroom and have the same teacher all day for all subjects anymore.  Each of us fourth grade teachers will have 2 sections of students that rotate in midday.  I will be teaching 2 sections of Math, Science and Social Studies while my teaching partner, Mrs. Roney, will be teaching 2 sections of ELA (Reading, Writing, Spelling, etc.).  In other words, I will have my “Homeroom” and teach them Math, Science and Social Studies in the morning while Mrs. Roney teaches her “Homeroom” ELA in the morning.  Then we switch classes midday and I teach HER “Homeroom” Math, Science and Social Studies in the afternoon while she teaches MY “Homeroom” ELA in the afternoon.  So your child will have 2 classroom teachers (Mrs. Roney and myself) this year as we will have 2 sets of students.  Mrs. Roney and I have taught together for over 13 years and work very well together.  Your child will have a great year working with the both of us…we are a solid team that puts kids first.  We also, as an entire grade level, are excited to continue this new method of instruction to 4th Grade!

Encore Classes for the year are as follows:

Quarter 1---Art daily

Quarter 2---Spanish daily

Quarter 3---STEM daily

Quarter 4---Music daily

PE is daily year round and Library is every Wednesday afternoon year round.

***VERY IMPORTANT***---IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT (PLANNED OR UNEXPECTED) PLEASE TRY TO LOOK UP THE EUREKA MATH LESSON ON-LINE. IT WILL BENEFIT HIM/HER TO LOOK AT THE LESSON ON GOOGLE. THAT WAY WHEN THEY RETURN THEY DIDN'T MISS A BEAT IN MATH CLASS. I REALLY APPRECIATE THE FAMILIES THAT ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE ON-LINE RESOURCE.

SIMPLY SEARCH ON GOOGLE "Eureka Math Grade 4 Module (whatever module we're on) Lesson (whatever lesson we're on).  A gentleman named Duane Habecker will actually teach and model the lesson for you/your child.  It's a great review for tests, if anyone is confused or simply need some reteaching.  I even go on there!

Or go to my "Eureka Math Resource Padlet" link (above to the right).  The Eureka Padlet has every Problem Set page, Homework page, instructional video for every lesson, answer keys and more!  Feel free to look at any lesson for more practice, reteaching or prep for an upcoming test.

CURRICULUM UPDATE FOR QUARTER :

🧮 Math - Eureka Module 1

Throughout this unit, students will extend their work with whole numbers. They begin with large numbers using familiar units (hundreds and thousands) and develop their understanding of millions by building knowledge of the pattern of times ten in the base ten system on the place value chart (4.NBT.1). They recognize that each sequence of three digits is read as hundreds, tens, and ones followed by the naming of the corresponding base thousand unit (thousand, million, billion).

🧪Science - The Birth of Rocks

We will kick off the year with “The Birth of Rocks”! In this unit, students investigate features and processes of the Earth’s surface. Students explore the rapid process of volcanic eruptions! In contrast, students also explore the gradual Earth processes of weathering and erosion. Students apply their knowledge and design solutions to mitigate the impacts of these processes on humans.

Throughout our unit, we will explore the following mysteries…

Mystery 1: Could a volcano pop up where you live?

Mystery 1: Why do some volcanoes explode?

Mystery 3: Will a mountain last forever?

Mystery 4: How could you survive a landslide?

🌎Social Studies: The Northeast Region

We will be exploring the culture and geography of the Northeast region of the United States.  Throughout our unit, we will be reading informational texts and also studying the locations of these states, identifying the capitals and memorizing the abbreviations.  We will also explore resources, climate, animals,  famous people and events from the Northeast Region of the United States.  At the end of the unit, students will be tested on the locations, capitals and abbreviations of the Northeast states.
