Below, you will find a "Week at a Glance" which provides a general outline for instruction. Please keep in mind that instruction & homework may vary or change throughout the week based on student needs and understanding. Week at a Glance: August 24th-28th  

 

*Reading:📚 

EQ – What is change?

This week students will learn to distinguish between physical and character traits. We will read "Spaghetti in a Hotdog Bun," Enemy Pie," and "Small Saul" and discuss physical traits, character traits, and feelings. Students will also read Maya Angelou's poem, "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" while learning our close reading protocol. Students will also be introduced to their reading response journal and explore our new unit's vocabulary words.

 

*Math:📊 

Module 2 - Place Value & Problem Solving with Units of Measure

We will begin Module 2 this week. We will complete lessons 2, 3, 4, 5, & 7. These lessons will review telling time to the nearest 5 minutes, and students will then tell time to the nearest minute. Students will also solve word problems involving elapsed time. At the end of the week, we will learn about kilograms & grams.

 

*Writing: 📝

Students will write their 3rd grade goals. We will then begin our personal narrative unit. Students will write their seed idea.

 

*Social Studies:🌍 
 
 
 
*Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Our lessons  3rd grade students will begin the week of February 1st. The Chelsea Intermediate School Social Workers will be teaching each lesson in the child’s classroom. The "Think First and Stay Safe" program will be the curriculum utilized for these lessons with a focus on Child Lures.
