Welcome to Mrs. Venable's 4th Grade Webpage
12/5/25
Welcome back to our page!
Our students are off to a great start with our book clubs! Groups came up with a team name, made banners to represent themselves, and had rich conversations about the novels so far. They will be expected to collect sticky notes as they read. On Fridays, they will meet with their group, and these stickies come in handy as they refer back to the text. We paused our SWI lessons to work on the Doubling Rule with words. I am noticing some confusion about how to know when to double or not, so we took some time to practice and go through the rules for doubling. On Friday, our classes did fun creative writing- "Mrs. Venable's Winter Catastrophe" stories! They have such awesome imaginations!
Next week:
We will begin our nonfiction unit with text structure: Description, Sequence, Cause/Effect, Problem/Solution, and Compare/Contrast. I will introduce each structure and model how to identify, then analyze each type. We will begin literary essays in writing, with another fun writing on Friday. Fine- will be our SWI base of study. Please remind your student to do the book club reading so they are prepared for our meetings on Friday. Hickory Creek choir students will be performing for us on Friday, too!
Next week:
Tuesday - Hot lunch; Library
Thursday - Theme: "Holiday Sparkle- lights, glitter, or anything that sparkles"
Great job everyone! Have a nice weekend!
