My name is Mrs. Gina Smerz.
I am excited to be starting my 4th year teaching Spanish at Chelsea Intermediate School. While this is my 4th year here, this is my fourteenth-year teaching Spanish. Before joining the Chelsea family, I taught 7th grade Spanish for ten years. I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Go Illini!). During my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate to study abroad in Granada, Spain. After college, I continued my education and pursued a Master of Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
I am a proud mother of two creative and spunky girls. I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, cooking, crocheting, gardening, reading and practicing yoga. My kids' favorite activity lately is schooling me in chess.
