¡Hola y bienvenidos a la página de español!
2026-2027
My name is Mrs. Gina Smerz.
I am excited to be starting my 5th year teaching Spanish at Chelsea Intermediate School. While this is my 5th year here, this is my 15th year teaching Spanish. Before joining the Chelsea family, I taught 7th grade Spanish for ten years. I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Go Illini!). During my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate to study abroad in Granada, Spain. After college, I continued my education and pursued a Master of Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. I went on to teach at Brookwood Junior High in Glenwood for 4 years, Nathan Hale in Crestwood, Hille in Oak Forest for 5 years, then found my way to Chelsea.
My husband and I are the proud parents of two creative and spunky girls. I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, cooking, crocheting, gardening, reading and practicing yoga. My kids' favorite activity lately is schooling me in chess.
I look forward to another great year at Chelsea! Feel free to reach out for any reason.
