Welcome to our class page! I am so excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year with our new classroom family! Please use this website to keep up with the latest updates in our classroom. You will find a general outline for weekly instruction below. Please keep in mind that instruction & homework may vary or change throughout the week based on student needs and understanding.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions! I look forward to working together this year to best support your child! We are going to have a great year!

Math

This week, we are continuing to power through our last module of 3rd grade! Module 7 is geometry and measurement word problems. Our focus this week will be lessons 9, 12, and 13, which includes composing and decomposing polygons using tangrams, measuring side lengths to find perimeter, and exploring perimeter as an attribute to solve problems. We are also taking FastBridge Math on Tuesday (5/14).

Reading

This week, we will continue our 4th quarter skills, focusing on literary texts! Our essential question of the quarter is "How do people inspire change in others?" We are going to spend the next few weeks doing an author study of Patricia Polacco- one of my favorites! :) Our focus standards are RL 3.3, RL 3.5, and RL 3.9. We also have FastBridge Reading on Wednesday (5/15).

SS

This week, we will begin our final unit of the year- economics! We will be learning about why money is valuable and students will be introduced to some vocabulary: consumers, wages, producers, and exchange.

Writing

We are going to begin an inquiry-based research project! Students will brainstorm and determine their topic, along with guided questions to help with research. On Friday, your child will be coming home with a "permission" slip for parent approval of their topic, project, and materials to be brought from home.

Our lessons  3rd grade students will begin the week of February 1st. The Chelsea Intermediate School Social Workers will be teaching each lesson in the child’s classroom.
