Welcome back Tigers to the 2019-2020 school year. My name is Amanda Cichanowski and I will be your child’s Resource teacher this year.  This is my 9th year of teaching special education and my first year here at Chelsea.  I graduated with both a Special and Elementary Education degree from Western Illinois University and have my Master’s in Clinical Mental Heath Counseling.  I grew up and still live in Tinley Park with my husband Eric, my son Liam and dog Lucas.  I am very passionate about what I do, and work very hard at making your child’s learning experience engaging and fun. I am very excited about this year together and all the memories we will make. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or email me at the information listed.

For specific learning objectives and classroom information, please visit my Homeroom teachers' pages: Jenell Jaral, Karen Magana, and Nicole Holthouse

Week of April 20th- April 24th:

** Below are optional resources you can have your child work on daily in addition to the lesson plans that have been provided to you on the district HOME page.**

Reading:

For reading you can have your child log on to either their freckle, epic books or newsela account.

Freckle:  https://www.freckle.com/

Epic books: https://www.getepic.com/

Newsela: https://newsela.com/  Student login can be found on their login info sheet

IAR Practice Test: https://il.mypearsonsupport.com/practice-tests/ No class code or username needed for this site

These sites will allow the students to read fiction and non-fiction texts and answer multiple choice and written response questions that align to our standards that we have been working on this school year. I also sent home a packet that reviews these standards by reading and responding to short fiction and non-fiction passages.

ELA Novels: Students came home with both Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Cheese: Party Animal.  Students can focus on reading Ramona Quimby, Age 8 for the month of March and complete the packet of activites and comprehension questions that came home. Party Animal is something we can focus on reading for April.

Math:

For math students can access math games and practice their facts on zearn, khan academy, prodigy, or their freckle accounts.

Zearn: https://www.zearn.org/  Username & passwords can be found on their student login information sheet

Prodigy: https://sso.prodigygame.com/login#classes Username & passwords can be found on their student login information sheet

IAR Practice Test: https://il.mypearsonsupport.com/practice-tests/ No class code or username needed for this site

Freckle:  https://www.freckle.com/

*Some students have been assigned either FastMath or Reflex accounts this school year and have been practicing each day in class and can continue to use these accounts at home.

I also have many math websites under my cool links section of this webpage that the students can access.  We have worked so hard this school year for them to learn those facts, so please keep up the practice daily so we don't lose/forget all of that hard work we have done!!

Eureka Math:

Students came home with their Module 4/5 workbooks. They may work on the fractions lessons that we haven't completed for review.  I also sent home the Module 6 workbook. Students may begin to do one lesson a day in module 6 if they so choose.  Please do not go into Module 7 though.

Social Studies:

There are many great non-fiction articles on newsela and non-fiction books on epic about Native Americans.  Feel free to read more about our unit on the Native Americans. I also have under "Cool Links" the different tribes listed.  Students may choose a tribe that we have studied in class and do research on them.

Science:

Students love the Mystery Science lessons we do in class!  Mystery Science has created some free school-closure planning lessons that parents can do at home with their kids!

Mystery Science: https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning

Additional Resources:

Scholastic is offering a Learn at Home website. This free resource provides your children with 20* days of exciting articles and stories, videos, and fun learning challenges. Children can complete them anytime, in any order. They can work on their own or together with you and your family.

Our active learning journeys are available on any device and will provide your child with up to three hours’ worth of exciting learning experiences per day. They can go on virtual field trips, meet best-selling authors, or dig deep into a topic they love. We hope that you and your children stay safe and healthy, and wish you the best of luck during this stressful time.
