          Week of May 11th - May 15th

Information:

Update: Governor Pritzker announced school closures will continue through the rest of this school year.  The teachers will continue to provide remote learning lessons and support for your child(ren) at home through May 22.  Each family has their own unique situation, make it work for you.  School may be closed but the learning will continue!

Communication:  I am here!  Please reach out at anytime with questions, concerns, suggestions or ideas. Our class will have Zoom meetings on Mondays from 12:30-12:50 to connect with each other. I will continue to call every Wednesday or Thursday to talk with any child who was not able to participate in the meeting for that week. If your child finds a remote learning assignment confusing, we can set up an additional time to work together.

Chelsea News:  Mr. Wernet and Ms. Newcomb create a Chelsea Newsletter every week.  There are contests, riddles, books read aloud, videos and information for our Chelsea families.  Here is last week's newsletter, https://www.smore.com/e8zsf

Resources:

All Lessons are posted on the district web site under remote learning.

Explanation of reading lessons: On the framework, you will see that all assignments are hyperlinked. Please right click the blue hyperlink and select “open link” to access each task. Once you select the link for the day in reading, you will be taken to a PDF PowerPoint for the day. Some slides require students to watch a YouTube video or a teacher led video prior to completing an assignment. All assignments may be printed or copied onto a sheet of loose-leaf paper. No assignment will be graded.  If further explanation is needed, contact your teacher for help.

Explanation of math lessons: On the framework, you will also see a lesson for each day of the week. Students should right click each blue hyperlink and select “open link” to access any videos that might be included each day. Students should also have their module 6/7 workbooks and a pencil ready to go prior to beginning each lesson.

Additional Reading/Literacy Activities

Encourage your child to keep a journal and record everything they are doing, feeling and know about this time in their lives.  It is a great way to practice writing and would also be a great keepsake.

Please remind your child to read a book of their choice for at least 30 minutes each day.

Social Studies

Research Illinois state symbols.  Look for the state flower, tree, song, animal, etc. Using note cards or small pieces of paper, create a Memory Matching game.  Write the name of the state symbol on one card.  Draw a picture and write a sentence to describe or tell more about it on another card.  When you are finish, turn all the cards upside down and mix them up.  See if you can find the two matching cards again.  You can play with one or more players.
