Erin’s Law is a state mandated, age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education program for students Pre-K through 12th grade. Erin’s Law requires that children be educated by law in schools on sexual abuse in a child friendly manner, for the purpose of informing and protecting students from sexual abuse. Warning signs of abuse include, but not limited to, the following: prolonged depression or withdrawal from family and peers, displays knowledge or interest in sexual acts that are inappropriate for his/her age, makes strong efforts to avoid a specific person without an obvious reason, runs away from home, signs of physical discomfort, aggressive behavior towards others, and mistreatment of animals and other children.
To report a sexual abuse situation as described above, please complete the “Erin’s Law Referral Form” below and submit. Chelsea Intermediate School appreciates your communication and support in ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
Bullying is defined as a situation in which a student is exposed repeatedly and over time to negative actions on the part of one or more students. Negative actions can include inappropriate gestures, written statements, verbal remarks, or physical acts of aggression that place the student in reasonable fear of harm to his person or property, or that has the effect of insulting or demeaning any student in such a way as to interfere with their education.

Chelsea implements the Character Counts program at each grade level throughout the school year. Character Counts is the nation's most widely used character education program, being used in various schools, sports, and civic organizations. The framework of this program is built on the "Six Pillars of Character." Those pillars are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
Though all six pillars are utilized throughout the school year, we have narrowed our focus to three core expectations for all Chelsea students: respect, responsibility, and caring. These expectations are reinforced on a daily basis, and are used by all students and staff members to define appropriate behavior at Chelsea School.
Students who demonstrate one (or more) of our core expectations may be rewarded with a tiger stripe. Tiger stripe earners are rewarded with a small prize, have their photos displayed in the “Earn Your Stripes” display case, and are invited to submit their stripe into a monthly raffle.
Raffle winners may enjoy rewards such as extra recess, lunch with the principal or assistant principal, computer time, or the opportunity to be an office helper. In addition, eight tiger stripe earners per grade level are selected to be student ambassadors each month. These ambassadors play an important role, as they are responsible for providing Mr. Wernet and Ms. Newcomb with feedback as to how each grade level is meeting the core expectations, and collaborate in planning bimonthly Tiger Talks for each grade level team.
