SPEECH SOUND EXPECTATIONS FOR PRESCHOOLERS

Speech Target Guidelines for 157C 

(Articulation/phonological skills are only targeted if they are delayed AND if they are impacting the student’s education) 

 

 

 

Pre-K (age 3) 

    - syllable deletion 

    -final consonants 

    -initial /h, m, n, p, b, w, t, d/  

      and “y” 

Pre-K (age 4) 

  • /f, k, g, ng/ 
  • /s/ blends (omitting one of the sounds) 
  • /s, z/ **only if substitution is present or sound is omitted** 

Kindergarten 

  • /v, l, sh, ch/ and “J” 
  • Cluster reduction of /l/ or /r/ blends (omitting one of the sounds) 

1st grade 

  • /s,z/ 

2nd grade 

  • /r/ 
  • /th/ (voiced and voiceless)
