|Teacher Dianne Pitsoulakis - Fifth Grade (Send e-mail)|
Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year here at Chelsea School. We have many new and exciting things planned for our fifth graders this year. How happy they were to hear that they will have their own laptop to use in class and that they
will be learning Spanish too.
It was wonderful to meet the parents and student at our annual Meet and Greet. Thank you for taking the time to visit our classroom and bring in all the supplies.
Please check my webpage for homework assignments, project due dates and upcoming news. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.
I look forward to partnering with you to make this your child's best and most successful year yet!
Music/Band/Orchestra will be on I-Days for our classroom. Please be sure your child has their instrument for their sectional on these days. See TIGER calendar link below or under Downloads.
IMPORTANT TESTING INFORMATION
This week students in my class will participate in benchmark screenings provided by FastBridge Learning. FastBridge is District 157-Cís new screening instrument that will take the place of AIMSweb. Similarly to AIMSweb, this assessment will be provided in the fall, winter and spring to help teachers determine which students are likely to meet the end of the year learning goals and which students may require intervention. This computer based assessment measures performance in reading and math. The district will be providing training to all teachers on score interpretation. More information will be forthcoming to parents. I look forward to working with your child this school year.
We will once again be selling popsicles during lunch to raise money to ship boxes to active military members during the holidays.†The dates are the following:
The popsicles will be $1.00 each and only sold that day during their lunch time.
If you were unable to attend Curriculum Night, the Fifth Grade Slideshow is available for viewing in my Downloads.
READING AT HOME
Is reading part of your family's daily routine?
Reading is the most important skill because it is the basis for learning throughout the school day.
Reading takes practice.
Make reading a part of your family's daily routine.
*Read every night with your child or along side your child.
*Ask your child to occasionally read aloud and listen to how they're able to read with fluency-expression, accuracy, rate, phrasing, and punctuation.
*We will be working on reading more fluently in the classroom with weekly goals. What will be your child's goal this week?
"The habits we form from childhood make no small difference, but rather they make all the difference." -Aristotle
E.L.A. READING LOG
*Our fifth grade homework expectation of students is to read a minimum of 80 minutes per week. The students are working on weekly reading goals. Can you exceed the expectation?.
