Teacher Georgiana Lemmons - Third Grade  (Send e-mail)

My goal is to call all of the parents during the 1st quarter to get feedback and answer any questions that you may have. I do try to send an email first to set up a time, but please do not be alarmed if I call you. :-)

Math
Great questions from parents this week:
What is an exit slip?
An exit slip is given at the end of the lesson to check for understanding. I give exit slips the day after the lesson as a “bell ringer” or “morning work.” Once a week, exit slips are graded and entered into the grade book. The graded exit slip is usually at the end of the lesson cycle after the students have been exposed to the skill for a few days. In addition, I work with those students who have not shown mastery on the skill and they have a second attempt at the exit slip.

What is a module?
This is another name for Chapter or unit. The Mid-Module Skill Check is when we stop half way through the module to assess the skills we have learned up to that point.

What is the difference between formative and summative?
Summatives are assessments like end of module assessments, skill checks, and quizzes. Formatives are independent work. This quarter, all assessments will be entered into the grade book as formatives.

How are tape diagrams labeled?
A detailed handout about tape diagrams went home on Friday. It’s attached to independent work that the students completed last week.
