Gifted / Everest Program

  • The Gifted / Everest Program will serve identified students in grades 3rd – 5th at Chelsea and 6th – 8th at Hickory Creek.
  • Curriculum covered includes advanced studies in Literature, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Class work missed will be Compacted for Everest students. Most Everest work will be completed in school.
  • Students will complete independent research topics and group work during Everest time.
  • Everest students will take additional field trips during the school year which correlates with their units studied.
  • Student Progress Rubrics will be sent home each Trimester.
  • All Everest students are required to be passing all classes.
  • Formal identification for Gifted/Everest Program participation will be made based on the criteria listed below. The Gifted/Everest Program teacher will participate in the assessment of students to determine participation.

4th and 5th grade students MUST meet 2 out of the 3 Criteria:

  • C.S.I. Score of 133 or Above (From InView Ability Test)
  • 98% or Higher Total Battery (From Terra Nova Achievement Test)
  • Characteristics Identification Checklist (Scales for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students)

3rd grade students:

  • Addressing the need to provide developmentally appropriate curriculum for 3rd grade students, consideration will be given to the following criteria: CSI score; Terra Nova Total Battery Score; and how much the student displays traits exhibited by high functioning students. The top 8 to 10 per cent of the grade level will be formally identified.
